About Manvers Lake Activities
Manvers Lake Activities is based at Manvers Lake near Wath-upon-Dearne and is a operated by Manvers Lake & Dearne Valley Trust Ltd, a charitable company formed in 2011 to look after the lake and surrounding area. The trust also manages the boathouse which was officially opened in August 2011 by local MP John Healey. The boathouse is the home of a thriving multi-activity sports club - Manvers Waterfront Boat Club.
Manvers Lake was created in the 1990's as part of the remediation works following the closure of the Manvers Main colliery complex and associated railway yards. In addition to its amenity & recreational value, the lake also serves a functional purpose as a balancing lake forming part of a sustainable urban drainage scheme for the surrounding residential and industrial developments.
We have held an AALA licence since 2014 allowing us to run activity sessions for outside groups such as schools, community group, scout and guide groups. Activities covered by the licence are kayaking, open canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding and improvised and raft building. All activity sessions are supervised by properly qualified coaches and instructors who have the experience and training to ensure that the activity is both safe and enjoyable for participants.
